Yes, the word brake in this instance is spelled right.
We have a very good friend who is a preacher and his sermon really struck me …
Does God Have To Brake Me?
I’ve been around sheep before and there is a method that I did not know about before and that is the shepherd will hinder a wayward sheep for a while. What does he do and why?
If sheep are trained right, they will hear their shepherd’s voice and respond. This is true even if there are several shepherds with their sheep in the mix. However, there will be a few sheep here and there who will wander away from the flock.
Because of this, there are dangers for the wandering sheep. Predators looking to feast on sheep who are away from their master.
The shepherd will put a weight of some type on the sheep’s leg which prevents them from wandering too far. This sheep cannot get around as fast as the others and it is kept close to the shepherd. Therefore, it is dependent upon the shepherd to get around the pasture and drink and learns his voice. When it has learned these lessons, the “brake” will be removed.
As I was thinking about this, God was speaking to my heart. And He said ….
There are times, child, when you wander away because you are not listening to my voice. The devil is always waiting for you to do this. You must listen intently to my voice and obey. When you do not, I will have to brake you, I will have to hold back the blessings for you to listen.
I had never thought of it like that. Sure, I know there are times, sometimes long periods of time, where I am not listening to God, and I am certainly not spending time with Him.
It’s like we get lazy when life intervenes. Take for instance, this time in my life, I am really needing to get organized.
Here’s the funny part … I am a procrastinator. And, I know God does not like that. But, I am and it needs to change. I am almost 60 years old, so I am really trying to do better.God says: There are times, child, when you wander away because you are not listening to my voice. When you do not, I will have to brake you, I will have to hold back the blessings for you to listen. Click To Tweet
Also, I am easily distracted. Does any of this ring a bell with you?
When I get lazy, distracted, it’s usually when things are going good. The blessings are there, my safety net is intact. Or, so it appears.
Does God have to brake me? You bet! And, it isn’t out of meanness, it is totally out of great love!
If I could admit the truth of this … I am taking advantage of God’s love … I am sitting back. What a shame that I do this! God forgive me! Change my heart!
Time for Change
I don’t want God to feel as if He has to brake me, to restrain the blessings He has for me. I don’t want to be in a position where I am easy prey for the devil. I don’t want to stumble other people.
Have you been in this phase in life or are you right now? Do you see that there needs to be a change? I sure do for myself!
I do want to say that God does not want us to be out in the open, easy prey. He will try to get our attention, He will call to us again and again and again so we will listen, but sometimes we just want our own way.
It’s time for change in my life in so many ways. Here are the things I need:
- Daily Bible reading
- Multiple times of praying and listening each day to God
- I will be stronger in faith by asking God to grow it more
- I will meditate on the scriptures I read
This is a short list, too much and I may not do any of it.
God loves us so much and Jesus paid the ultimate sacrifice, I don’t want to minimize that magnitude of love by being lazy in my intimacy with God.
“The Lord is my shepherd, I have everything I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; He leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength, He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to His name.” Psalm 23:1-3
This is me being real …
