A painting that displays horrendous fear, what does it look like? Is there such a picture that exists?
I have seen that picture and the fear that struck me was life shattering. It immobilized me to such a degree that I could not move in any direction and I could not pull my gaze away.
That picture reached into the very depths of my soul and caused such complete paralysis in every part of me that I could not think, I could not hear and I definitely could not function.
Have you seen a picture like that? The colors and textures are extremely disturbing, there are no words to describe what I saw.
Stay with me on this…I painted it!
Fear Is Its Own Picture
The picture I saw has a name … Fear.
I kept hearing God say, “Keep walking forward, child, for I am with you.” Very slowly, walking forward in faith and trust in God, not even sure how I was walking while at the same time unable to tear my gaze away.
I started seeing something very indistinct from afar off. It appeared that the picture was changing very minutely. Again, that great fear continues and God is still saying “Keep walking, child, for I am with you.”
Still, there’s something happening with that picture, something is changing and I can see a silhouette of someone in front of it and I am now curious but still very fearful.
I see a white flowing robe on the silhouette and there is something in his hand and it is moving.
As I keep listening to God, I keep moving forward and I begin to see that the picture is changing, it is not so horrendous as it was from afar off.
Have you seen a picture like this?
Fear represents a mirage that satan paints and if we would “have eyes to see and ears to hear“, we can know that it is a mirage (but we can’t see through it), we need just to continue walking towards it even though it brings such horrendous and immobilizing fear.
A New Picture
That picture is changing, and I now see that there is a paintbrush in his hand. He is painting over the picture, over the mirage, and it is becoming such a beautiful picture.
I get up to it, and I see that there are nail marks in his hands, I look into his face and although I cannot describe it, I know that it is Jesus! He is changing my fear, He is covering over that picture.
He dips the paintbrush in what looks like fresh blood and is applying it to the picture, but there are a myriad of beautiful colors flowing from that blood-soaked paintbrush.
It is breathtaking, no more fear, there is now peace. I can now walk without fear. By being obedient even in my fear, I was walking through the things in my life that were hurtful and harmful. It was like I was shedding layers and layers of filthy clothing that I had not realized was still on my body.
But, still, in the background, I was still tempted to unfocus and still see that fearfulness and believe it’s real. Fear is a mirage and is always present in the background threatening to come to the forefront, but focusing on Jesus keeps the mirage, which is a lie, from taking over.
Allowing God to move us through the mirage will bring growth in intimacy with Jesus, and we will begin to see through God’s eyes – that mirage becomes less detailed (holes to see through).Fear is a mirage that is always present in the background, threatening to come to the forefront; but focusing on Jesus keeps the mirage, which is a lie, from taking over. So, for me and others, because we are human and we have an enemy of our souls, that mirage is still there lurking, but as I see and hear God saying, “come closer, keep moving forward towards me” and I obey God’s Word says …if God is for me who can be against me … this fear is temporary.
WOW! I love how the Lord helps us to understand. I pray that God will give you eyes to see and ears to hear what He’s having me speak, so by the blood of Jesus Christ, the enemy cannot cloud your eyes or ears!! Amen and Amen! And, by the blood that Jesus shed, those mirages (fear and unforgiveness), are covered over and healing comes to you through God’s Spirit!
We give God permission how much and how far we will go towards Him by our obedience (choice to move forward, or choice not to) no matter what’s going on in our life.
That’s why I love Philippians 4:4-9 –

Rejoice in the Lord always … do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication (humble and earnest prayer in worship) let your requests be made know to God. And the peace of God (Holy Spirit), which surpasses all (human) understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Finally … whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things … and practice these things and the God of peace will be with you.
I hope this has blessed you. It has actually been 7 years since I experienced this, but it is still so fresh in my heart and mind.
What are your thoughts today? Is there fear in your life? I want to hear your story and what God is doing in your life.
