How Essential Oils Can Help the Whole Body

essential oils
You’ve seen the advertisements and I’m sure you’ve wondered if it’s really true.  Surely something so simple, in the face of all of the pharmaceutical testing and medications available with or without a prescription, could not work. Right? And, what about cost, aren’t they more expensive, don’t you have to use alot of it to help your to heal?

I used to be one of those skeptics, of course, but because of my curious nature, I gave it a whirl.

It’s like  a truck with the tailgate down, going about 20 miles per hour down the dusty road. At first, I just watched from the distance, then I started running beside the truck, checking out the contents; then, I put my hand on the tailgate, and eventually hopped on the edge of the tailgate … still not sure. Eventually, I hopped on board and haven’t regretted it.

How do you feel about essential oils? How much do you know? If they are so good, why aren’t traditional doctors prescribing them? And, why, when you do mention to a doctor, do you get that big-eyed look that says “snake oil”?

We’re going to go on an exploration and discover the inherent benefits of and my personal experience with them. Since I’m not a doctor of any kind, I do not prescribe, I am giving you information and my personal experience with essential oils and how I use them.  Also, essential oils are recommended to be diluted with a light carrier oil, such as sunflower. That means, more of the oil than the essential oil.  Some people may have a little rash if using just the essential oil. Consult your own physician before you embark into using essential oils.

Disclaimers, a “must have” for these types of things.  Now that we’re done with that, let’s get down to the nitty gritty.

Historically speaking, essential oils have been used for thousands of years, even before Christ.  Yes, so they are mentioned in the Bible, specifically used for certain things like purification, illness, beautification.  They knowledge of the oils in the trees, herbs, leaves, and roots was known even then. There were certain things commanded by God to be used at certain times.
The origin of medication was also based upon the constituents, or beneficial properties, of herbs and oils.  Of course, technology has changed all of that.

For instance, we all know about Oregano for flavoring food, whether it is dried or fresh.  However, it is a very powerful herb as it has the following properties:

Anti-aging
Anti-viral
Antibacterial
Antifungal
Anti-inflammatory
Immune stimulant

All of that from one simple herb!  I’m telling you, it is very powerful.  You need to try it if you have any kind of thickening and yellowing of the nail, which is a fungus, just put a couple of drops on every day for about 2 months.

Oh, I almost forgot!  Orange essential oil can be used on a dust mop for wood floors or dust rag for furniture.  Yummy smelling, fresh smelling! Just a couple of drops! Wonderful!

Let’s see, what other herb is great.  How about Lavender? Many people talk about Lavender essential oil. One of the ways I use it is in a little bit of Argon oil, just 1 drop, and then smooth over a clean face.  If you have stress, or headaches or just need a pick-me-up, put some Lavender on your temples, just put a drop on finger and swipe on temples.

I have a secret! I also use it on my hair, smells lovely!

What about the internal benefits of Lavender essential oil? Well, it reduces blood fat/cholesterol, it is also antiseptic, antifungal, analgesic (relaxing), antitumoral (how about that! bye tumors), vasodilating, anti-inflammatory.  This wonderfully fragrant essential oil is great for respiratory infections, high blood pressure, menstrual problems, skin conditions like acne, psoriasis, stretch marks, burns, hair loss, insomnia, nervous tension.

Lavender essential oil can also be used in an office environment.  It has been shown to dramatically improve mental accuracy and concentration, according to University researchers in Japan.

There are so many essential oils to choose from and the ones I would recommend for starters are Lavender, Peppermint, Tea Tree, Eucalyptus and Orange.  These five essential oils have provided so many opportunities to take care of illnesses in the body as well as things cropping up on the outside. When I make lip balm, I love to use Peppermint.

A one-ounce bottle of an essential oil can contain as much as 600 drops, so they keep a long time.  Just be sure and purchase them in a dark brown or dark blue bottle and keep them behind a closed cupboard and out of the reach of children.

And, the cost? You will laugh that you can buy a one-ounce bottle for less than $6, a penny a drop.  Some are more because of the availability of the herbs and the magnitude of herbs needed to produce the oils, but still very minimal.

There will be another post later that is more in-depth about the use of essential oils, but for now, you can see that they are very beneficial.

If you have any questions, I will try to answer them; or if you have used essential oils with success, we’d love to hear your experiences.
